Rotary Drilling

When there is a requirement to explore beyond the soils into the underlying bedrock, rotary drilling is the ground investigation method of choice. CJ Associates have a range of rotary drilling rigs at our disposal including the Comacchio GEO 205 and Beretta T41. There aren’t many places in the UK where we haven’t successfully drilled holes and you may even see one of our rigs lifted into a location by crane from time to time.

SITE INVESTIGATION

There are two types of rotary borehole frequently used on ground investigation projects, rotary open holes and rotary cored holes.  Rotary open hole holes are drilled where rapid progress is required on projects such as mining investigations when the structural details of the rock is not necessarily important but we are more interested in the presence of voids that could indicate shallow mine workings.

Rotary core drilling is undertaken when detailed logging of the core is required. CJA utilise a range of techniques including wireline using Geobore S triple core barrel systems to recover the best quality of sample which allows our engineers to produce meticulous detailed logs for our clients.

Rig Fleet

CJ Associates have a UK wide fleet of rotary rigs ranging from GEO 205 to Beretta T41 and our crews have delivered for clients across the entire UK.

Depending on the requirements of the project our rigs can be towed to site via 4×4 vehicles with a support vehicle carrying ancillary equipment and tooling.

For large scale projects our rigs and tooling can be safely mobilised to site using a low loader lorry and HIAB if required.

Once onsite our rotary rigs which are crawler mounted are able to track to the drilling location.

EXPERIENCED TEAM

Our rigs are versatile and along with coring abilities for all types of bedrock we are able to utilise dynamic sampling techniques to sample superficial deposits before the bedrock is encountered. Our rigs are fitted with powerful hydraulic impact hammers which are able to progress sample barrels through most forms of superficial deposits. The versatility of our dual purpose rigs means that our clients are often able benefit from reduced mobilisation costs that they would otherwise encounter by mobilising rigs that are only able to sample and test either superficial deposits or bedrock.

WE LOVE A CHALLENGE!

Just because access may be challenging it doesn’t mean that we will not endeavour to meet our clients needs. We still start the consultation process by finding out the exact requirements of the project and then undertaking a site visit to examine the safest and most costs effective way of delivering the requirements.
