Cable Percussion Drilling

Also known as shell and auger, cable percussion drilling is one of the most reliable, well tested and robust drilling techniques in the UK. A cutting tool (shell, clay cutter, etc.) is driven into the ground through percussive force. Casing, of a variety of diameters, can be installed to prevent the hole from collapsing, allowing good progress to be made. Cable percussion drilling is incredible versatile and can handle consolidated and unconsolidated soils. We currently own three cable percussion rigs.

Cable percussion drilling is a relatively simple concept when in capable hands, and the holes are progressed using an engine-powered cable winch to raise and lower a range of weighted tools that progress the borehole. Steel casing tubes are driven into the ground to support the borehole walls as the hole progresses.

Rig Fleet

CJ Associates have a UK wide fleet of cable percussion rigs ranging from Dando 2000 to Dando 3500 and our crews are some of the most experienced in the country.

Cable percussion rigs are mobilised to site by being towed via 4×4 vehicles with a support vehicle carrying ancillary equipment and tooling. For projects with deep well requirements, additional casing and tooling may be mobilised to the site via a HIAB or low loader lorry.
