DRILLING SERVICES
ROTARY DRILLING
Our rotary drilling rigs are owned, operated and maintained from our base of operations in Avonmouth, Bristol. These versatile rigs have the advantage of being able to sample and core both soils and rock. Available in various sizes, these rigs use a mixture of dynamic sampling in superficial soils, and rotary coring to recover very stiff soils and rock. All of our rotary rigs are capable of open-hole drilling, and larger variants are equipped to provide wireline drilling depending on the project requirements.
- Fitted with the latest safety features including emergency stop functions, remote walker packs, fully guarded with automatic shut off features.
- Our rigs are all regularly serviced and are fully compliant with LOLER And PUWER regulations
- Our crews all hold NVQ level 2 in Land Drilling.
- British Drilling Association Audited.
- A range of casing diameters are available in order to facilitate deep hole progression and aquifer protection measures.
- Stainless steel casing to enable Unexploded Ordnance Clearances.
- Both conventional and wireline (Geobore S) coring capability in different diameters able to achieve class 1 samples in accordance with BS EN ISO 22475-1.
CJ Associates have a varied fleet of rotary drilling plant, including Comacchio GEO 205, Beretta T41 and Fraste ML rigs available to Clients across the UK.
WINDOWLESS SAMPLING
CJ Associates own and operate two lightweight window sampling rigs suitable for drilling superficial soils typically up to 6m bgl. In favourable ground conditions, deeper holes are possible, and the rigs also have the capability to undertake U70 undisturbed sampling and carry out dynamic probing in accordance with BS EN ISO 22476-2.
These self-propelled rigs are rubber tracked with low ground bearing pressure, suitable for sites where access is restricted for larger plant. Window sampling has become popular as a cost-effective solution for rapidly characterising sites, able to undertake up to five to six boreholes in a single shift.
Where access is very restricted, CJ Associates are able to provide other techniques such as handheld window sampling, offering ground investigation capability where other plant cannot reach.
- Both Dando Terrier and Archway Dart dynamic sampling rigs.
- Self propelled rubber track mounted rigs. Min access width: 1.0m. Min working height: 2.9m. Weight: 1 tonne.
- Capable of category A sampling (UT70) in suitable soils.
- Standard Penetration Testing and Dynamic Probing in accordance with BS EN ISO 22476-3 and 22476-2.
- Our rigs are regularly serviced and maintained and are fully compliant with PUWER regulations.
- NVQ qualified drilling operators.
CABLE PERCUSSION
Cable percussion drilling, also known as ‘Cable Tool or ‘Shell & Auger’ is the most common means of drilling and is suitable for sampling the wide variety of superficial soils we encounter in the UK. As a low cost and versatile solution, the CP rig is capable of drilling in a range of diameters up to depths of 90m in favourable ground conditions.
CJ Associates own and operate four cable percussion drilling rigs of different sizes depending on the project requirements. Boreholes are advanced using a clay cutter or ‘shell’ depending on the materials encountered, and soils for later testing are retained as small or large bulk disturbed samples, as well as class 1 UT100 samples in suitable fine soils.
- Dando 2000, 3000 and 4000 series drilling rigs.
- Wide range of drilling diameters available from 300mm to 150mm.
- Stainless steel casing to enable unexploded ordnance clearance.
- Capable of category A sampling (UT100s) and other methods such as piston sampling in suitable fine soils.
- Standard Penetration Testing to BS EN ISO 22476-3.
- Highly experienced drillers with NVQ level 2 in Land Drilling.
- Fully serviced and maintained rigs in accordance with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
